Offline functionality, although challenging to build, is the primary reason I'd use an desktop app. There are few products in this field that have any functionality without internet, and that's a major issue for productivity software.

Michael Ruderman: I really need an application for Linux. I hope they plan to develop a Linux application in the future. In addition, having a cross-platform application is a need today. Because Linux is now used quite a lot on personal computers.

On MacOS you'll be able to do when the new OS Sonoma comes out using their new Web App. You'll be able to load up upbase in Safari and then send it to your dock!

I used Unite 4 (by BZG apps) to create an Upbase app and it works great. There are other options for making desktop apps from websites also.

Michael Okraj: Thanks, I'll try that. Unite 4 has caused me all sorts of grief with corrupted user profiles in chrome and edge.

Max: I purchased Webcatalog (free works great as well) and I am using it for quite many apps. It is really stable and quite customizable.

If you do this, it needs to be a progressive web app (PWA) or basically don't bother wasting your time with managing the code base for it. It's literally not worth it in any other case. We need Google sync before anything like this.

The simplest, and most modern, way to do this is to create a Progressive Web App (PWA), which can be 'installed' on the local system via a web browser.

How is a native app (mac, Windows) going to improve anything? Unless it adds anything extra that a browser-based app cannot support, I don't see there is any urgent need of this feature. Developing the Android/IOS app is much more important at the moment.

We have desktop apps for both Mac and Windows planned for the first quarter of next year. Sorry for the wait. In the meantime, you can use these workaround solutions:

Tony, the first quarter of 2025 has come and gone and now we're heading into the second quarter. What's going on with the app for all platforms?
